David
Enloe is in
his fourteenth year as Director of Bands at Hickory High
School. Mr. Enloe is a highly regarded arranger,
clinician, and adjudicator. He has been involved with
many well-respected programs on the secondary and
collegiate levels. Mr. Enloe attended Jacksonville
State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree
in Music Education. While at Jacksonville State, Mr.
Enloe studied French Horn and Conducting with Bayne
Dobbins. He has also received his Master’s Degree in
Conducting with Professor Anthony Maiello at George
Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
Mr. Enloe,
a native of Atlanta, Georgia, believes in maintaining a
well balanced program at the high school level. His
bands have achieved many accomplishments ranging from
the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City to
being named a Virginia Honors Band. Mr. Enloe has
served as a clinician and adjudicator up and down the
East Coast, as well as adjudicating for the Bands of
America. At his current position at Hickory High
School, his responsibilities include directing the Wind
Ensemble and Concert B-day band, overseeing and
arranging for the 220 member Marching Hawks,
directing two Jazz Ensembles, and teaching 6th
grade band at Hickory Middle School. The program at
Hickory High School has flourished in the last ten years
and has grown to over 300 students involved in the band
program.
Mr. Enloe is an active performing
musician, playing in the Hampton Horn Choir and the
Virginia Wind Symphony. Mr. Enloe’s affiliations
include MENC, VMEA, and the National Band Association.
Matthew Phillips,
a native of Chesapeake, is in his third
year as a band director in the Hickory program.
His responsibilities include teaching Concert Band A
Day, Symphonic Band, and Beginning Guitar. Before
teaching at Hickory High School, Mr. Phillips taught for
two years at Oscar Smith Middle School in Chesapeake,
VA. Like many other local band directors, Mr.
Phillips received his Bachelor's Degree in Music
Education from East Carolina University, studying with
Jon Wacker, Scott Carter, Christopher Knighten, and
Gregory Hurley. He has performed with the Virginia
Wind Symphony for the past two years, and also serves as
a private percussion teacher. Mr. Phillips is
currently a member of the Percussive Arts Society, MENC,
and the NEA.
John
Chenault is in his ninth year as Director of Bands
at Hickory Middle School. His responsibilities
include the administration and instruction of four
hundred band students. Formerly he taught at
Indian River High School in Chesapeake, Virginia and
Havelock High School in Havelock, North Carolina.
Dr. Chenault received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music
Education from East Carolina University. He
studied with Thomas Goolsby, George Knight, Richard
Lucht and Ralph Shumaker. Dr. Chenault attended
the University of Illinois where he completed a master
of Science and Doctor of Philosophy. Dr. Chenault
served as associate editor for the Bulletin published by
the Council for Research in Music Education. His
influences include Charles Leonhardt, Richard Colwell, David Peters and Robert Stake.
Dr. Chenault is an
active adjudicator, clinician and drill designer. He is
a member of many professional and honor societies. Dr.
Chenault has performed with the Virginia Wind symphony
for twelve years and previously performed with the
Al-Louis Swing Band. Dr. Chenault is founder and chair
of the Chesapeake Band Director’s Angling Society. He
resides in Chesapeake with his wife Natalie.
K.J.
Stafford K.J. Stafford is currently in his fourth
year as the band
director at Hickory Middle School. His responsibilities
include directing the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade
bands, jazz band and percussion ensembles, as well as
instructing and arranging for the Hickory High School
fall and winter drumline. K.J. received his Bachelor's
Degree in Music Education from the University of North
Texas in Denton, TX. Mr. Stafford was a member of the
2002 World Champion University of North Texas Indoor
Drumline. he was also a member of the Carolina Crown
Drum and Bugle Corps in 2001 and 2002, then a member of
the Phantom Regiment in 2003 and 2004. Mr. Stafford has
previously served on the staff of the Capital Regiment
Drum and Bugle Corps and is currently on staff with the
Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps. his affilitaions include
the Percussive Arts Soceity, MENC, VMEA, and the NEA.
K.J. exclusively endorses Innovative Percussion, as well
as Pearl Drums and Adams Percussion.
