Fundraisers
Southeastern Virginia Music Games
On the last Saturday of September, the Hickory Marching Hawks host the Southeastern Virginia Music Games, or SEVMG. This event is a competition of bands from around the region. It features renowned judges and enables the audience to view many exceptional bands.
Being the host band, the Hawks do not compete on this day, though they do perform. In the past, we have been able to also feature local colleges as exhibition bands. In 2010, the Old Dominion University marching band thrilled the people in the stands at the end of the day.
This event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Marching Hawks. To make the day a success, many of the parents and students are needed to volunteer during the day. Being a volunteer on this day does not require you to work all day. You are able to volunteer for a shift during the day. Without the participation of our parents and students, we would not be able to continue with the games. Information about the games will be discussed during the HBPA meetings in July, August and September. Please help make the SEVMG a success!
Concessions
The Hickory Band Parent Association runs the concession stands at the home football games and SEVMG. The money earned from the sales of concessions goes into the HBPA fund.
Fall Fundraiser
In the fall, the students are asked to fundraise from different companies. Usually, the students receive the information about this sale during marching band camp. The sold items are delivered in the fall.
Craft Fair
The HBPA sponsors a Fall Craft Fair, usually in November. It is held at Hickory High School on a Saturday, and many vendors are present to sell their items.
Fruit Sale
In November/December, the students are asked to sell fruit. Fruit is then delivered at the beginning of December.
Spring Fundraiser
There have been many discussions regarding a spring fundraiser. When a decision has been made to this fundraiser, information will be posted on the site.
On-going Car Washes
Throughout the year, there have been car washes at the 7-11 at Hanbury Village. They will be announced on the website.
Harris Teeter Card
The HHS Band is now registered with Harris Teeter Grocery Stores. Simply go to customer service at any Harris Teeter and link your VIC card to number 6555. A portion of your grocery purchases will then go to the Hickory Band.
SCRIP Program
This program allows you to purchase debit or gift cards to be used at different stores/shops locally and nationwide. With each purchase, a percentage of the purchase price is given back to the band program. Each store offers a different percentage to be given back. There are directions and a more detailed description of the Scrip Program on the SCRIP page.
GoodSearch
While searching the web, you can earn money for the Hickory Band Program. By going to www.goodsearch.com, and by signing up to support Hickory High School Bands, GoodSearch will donate 1 cent for every web search that is made through its program. See the GoodSearch website for more details.
El Gran Rodeo
The third Thursday of each month is Hickory Band Night at El Gran Rodeo, located in Edinburgh Commons near Target. You will need to print the flyer that is attached and present it when you order. The band will receive 15% of your bill.

Golf Tournament
The Second Annual Golf Tournament will be held Friday, August 10, 2012! More information on the Golf Tournament page. The First Annual Golf Tournament was played at Nansemond River Golf Club in Suffolk on August 12, 2011, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. There were many generous companies that sponsored holes or prizes for the day. Lots of teams signed up and played at $300/team. For reference, here is the flyer from the 2011 tournament:
Buffalo Wild Wings
The Buffalo Wild Wings at Hillcrest is donating 10% of each food and non-alcoholic purchase to HHS Band. To participate, you will need a “Home Team Advantage” card, which will be presented at each purchase. Leigh Strange has the cards, and has been distributing them at each of the HBPA meetings.
Fundraising is essential to the success of the Hickory Band program. Fundraising benefits not only the Marching Hawks, but all of the band students, including those who do not march. Below is a description of some of the ways in which the HBPA and students raise funds for the program. Also listed are any current fundraising activities.
